17 Tips to Slay Your Goals While Working Full-Time

All of my favorite strategies for creating a bigger, more extraordinary life. It's possible to work full time AND build the life of your dreams. Here's your coaching to slay new goals no matter what! 

I was inspired to write this because on Friday I'm going to have Colleen Hauk on our podcast. She's a best-selling author and an executive coach.

A lot of our conversation is about working full time and having a life with your family, and all of your dreams and goals achieved somehow.


Can We Really Do It All?

Are we really Wonder Woman?

I believe, and I'm strengthened by Colleen's message that we all are Wonder Woman. We all have that potential.

Today, what I want to talk about is how to slay your goals while working full-time.



Yes We Can and Here's How

1. Commit to Your Goal

Once you've decided you have a goal, and maybe that could be starting a new business or starting a new hobby, like painting, or something that you know that you want to be able to express and it would feel really good - make a commitment to that goal.

Don't let it just be something that would be nice if it happened, but, eh, nothing important.


2. Know Your Why

If it's important and you want to do it, and it feels really good to think about, start to get in touch with why it's important to you. You will hear lots of other shows where I discuss knowing your why.

I believe this last Monday, our Monday Motivation, we really talked about knowing your why. Get in touch with the reasons why you're doing it. That's going to give you commitment long-term.


3. Accept What Comes and Keep Going

The next step is to have some acceptance. It's going to be tough. You'll have to be flexible, disciplined, determined. These don't come for the faint-hearted.

These are really superior strengths that I want you to know you already have. The more that you use these muscles and these strengths, you'll see them more and you'll feel more empowered.


4. Prioritize What's Truly Important

One key technique is to prioritize. Determine what is most important to you. It can't be every little thing. It has to be truly what's most important.


5. Take Inspired Micro-Actions

What will help you to get to your goals, maintain some sanity and balance, and really good feelings while you're doing it all is to take very small but infused actions. Infused intention so you know you've decided what's important. They take priority, and this is where you spend your energy.

These are the actions you're taking. They are smaller, more inspired actions.


6. Prepare for Your Month, Week, and Day

Be prepared. The time it takes is worth its weight in gold. Whatever you're working towards, have a plan. Get into the habit of preparing for your week, preparing for your day, preparing for your month.

I like to prepare for the month ahead. I have a spreadsheet where I have everything that we have on the books, everything that's going to need to be done at a certain date and time. As we go into each day, we just have to take a look. What's going on today? I have it hanging up on a bulletin board.

The time that it takes me to be prepared for the month ahead or the day ahead is always so valuable. That time is worth every single second. Colleen and I talk a lot more about this.


7. Sacrifice Comfort for a Bigger Life

In order to have a bigger life, it will require sacrifice. It could mean waking up earlier, maybe using your lunch break to slay these goals and to spend more time maybe listening to a podcast that inspires you. It could mean a lot of different things.

But to have this bigger life, to meet new goals, and higher goals, and better goals, it's going to require some sacrifice from you, so make sure that you're realistic about that.


8. Take Good Care of Yourself

When we're trying to do more, it's important to not overdo it and to really, truly take care of ourselves. I don't want you to burn out, so try to eat healthier and sleep regular hours.


9. Schedule It Out

Do your best to put your self-care first. Put everything, including self-care, and family time, social time, put that on your calendar.

What's the point of getting to the top or reaching your awesome goals if you're all alone?


10. Simplify, Delegate, and Let Go

What can you afford to give up? Do you have commitments, responsibilities, relationships? What do you have in your life that really doesn't need to be there?

Can you delegate more? Are there things that you're doing that someone could be doing for themselves, or are there things that really just don't fit and you kind of know it, but maybe you need this little push to just say no?


11. Focus on Your Strengths

What are you very good at doing? What are you great at?

Do more of these things.

As you're achieving goals, focus on your strengths and your skills, or things that are really exciting or more important to you.

As you focus on these things and you grow in these areas, you find out more. As you do more of these things, you'll feel better and you'll get more inspiration.


12. Research, Then Follow Your Instincts

I've always loved the concept of researching. We have a world of information literally at our fingertips, and I like to really make sure I research, research, research. And then I follow my instincts. That's it.

I make sure that I have all the knowledge I could have, but then do what is in my heart - do what I know to do.

I'll always have a still, small voice knowing that I've done my part in finding out more. I've talked to more people. I've used my friend, Google. She's great. I do things that give me information on getting better at a goal or whatever it is that would help me be more empowered. Then, I follow my instincts.


13. Be SMART About What You Choose

Let go of what doesn't fit. You can have it all, but be conscious of what you're choosing to have. Set realistic, just-outside-of-your-comfort-zone goals.

14. Get Started Wherever You're At

Build a roadmap and break it down. Just get started. It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be done. Your happiness is what's best for everyone. Do that. Be that.


15. Cultivate Resilience and Tenacity

Be resilient, tenacious. When I think back on successes I've had, it truly is my tenacity and my resilience. That is what keeps me being successful in any area I have grown or my life has gotten bigger, professionally, personally.

I am resilient and I am tenacious. If I had to name my two greatest skills or my character assets that help me in my life, those would be the two I'd love to impart to you.

Get in touch with your resilience. Get in touch with your tenacity. They will serve you.


16. Create Support Structures for Yourself

Support is already huge. If you don't already have a mentor or some type of empowering support system, get that in your life. You're probably going to hear me say this every single show, but it's because it's that important.

I literally just hung up with my mentor. I want you to know that my life has grown immensely when I'm working with somebody, when I work with a coach, when I have an accountability partner if I'm part of some type of a group that helps me get further faster.

It happens. It's as if I take 30 steps in a very short time rather than one or two steps in the same amount of time. I feel like that's always the difference between working with others that are really helping you, lifting you up, supporting you. They believe in you. You're accountable to them.

These are key for me. These are the things that help me be successful. If you don't have a coach, get one.

If you don't have a partner you can strategize with or help with your creative process, get together with somebody. Find people that really serve this purpose for you and be that for them.


17. Slow Down and Get Present

One of the final tips I can offer you is to be present. When you are trying to do a lot, and you have a lot on your plate, lots happening at work, maybe with your kids, or with your relationship, or your friendships, whatever it is, and it feels like it's a lot, the best thing to do is just slow down and be more present.

It seems a little conflicting, but it's the truth. If you just put away your phone and when you're with someone else, be present to that person. When you're at work, be present at your job. Do the best that you can at your job.

Maybe what your goal has been is to start a new business. It's totally possible. It's completely realistic to start a new business while you're currently in a full-time job. I would just encourage you to not blur the lines or jeopardize your good standing.

Everything and everyone is in your life for a reason.

Feel good as you accomplish bigger things.

And if you're starting a business, stay ethical. Live with integrity. Do great at your job. Don't use that time to focus on these goals, and to use the company's time to achieve your personal endeavors.


It's Not Going to Be Easy

One thing I cannot tell you is that it's going to be easy.

If it would, so many people would also be having an incredible, extraordinary life, but this is not for everyone.

This is for you.

I want to encourage you to be realistic and know that you are choosing the best. It might not be easy, but I will tell you - it's worth it.
